The Hammam

A traditional hammam in Marrakech

Our hammam follows the Moroccan ritual step by step. You rest in the warm steam, savon noir is spread over your skin, then your practitioner scrubs your whole body with the kessa glove before washing and rinsing you. The longer rituals add a coffee and honey scrub, a ghassoul wrap with seven herbs and a red clay face mask.

It is often called a Turkish bath, but the Moroccan hammam is more hands-on: you don't wash yourself, you are cared for. Every soap, clay and oil we use is Moroccan, and every ritual includes a robe, towels, slippers and a glass of mint tea.

Questions

Hammam questions

What happens during a hammam?

You rest in the warm steam, then savon noir is spread over your skin to soften it. Your practitioner scrubs your whole body with a kessa glove, then washes and rinses you. Depending on the ritual, a clay wrap or mask follows, and you finish with a glass of mint tea.

Which hammam ritual should I choose?

For a first visit, the Classic Hammam covers the essentials: savon noir, the kessa scrub and a wash. The Tradition Ritual adds a coffee and honey scrub, and the Royal Hammam Ritual adds a ghassoul body wrap and a red clay face mask. Not sure? Ask us on WhatsApp.

How much is a traditional hammam in Marrakech?

At Le Bain Blanc, hammam rituals cost 300 MAD to 500 MAD, depending on the ritual and its length, from 30 to 60 minutes. A robe, towels, slippers and a glass of mint tea are always included.

Is a Moroccan hammam the same as a Turkish bath?

Both use heat and steam, but the Moroccan hammam is a hands-on ritual: savon noir (black soap) softens the skin, a kessa glove exfoliates it, and rhassoul clay or argan oil finishes it. Ours follows the Moroccan way.

Can I use the hammam when pregnant?

Yes. Check with your doctor first, keep the steam gentle and the time in the heat short, and mention your pregnancy when you book. If you'd rather avoid the heat, our prenatal massage isn't done in the hammam: see our massages.
